How to Calculate Prorated Salary: Examples
Prorated salary pays employees for the actual days/months worked — used when starting mid-month, resigning, or taking unpaid leave.
Daily-Rate Formula
Prorated salary = (monthly salary ÷ days in month) × days worked
Example
Salary 30,000 THB, starting January 15 (31-day month):
- Daily rate = 30,000 ÷ 31 ≈ 967.74 THB
- Worked 17 days (Jan 15-31) → 967.74 × 17 ≈ 16,451.61 THB
Alternative Bases
Some companies use 30 days or only working days (e.g., 22 days/month):
- 30,000 ÷ 30 = 1,000 THB/day
- 30,000 ÷ 22 = 1,363.64 THB/working day
Where It Applies
- Mid-month hires/resignations
- Unpaid leave (LWOP)
- Mid-month position/salary changes
Tips
- Ask about company policy (30 days vs calendar)
- Check whether public holidays count as working days
