How to Calculate Restaurant Tip (10-15%) & Split the Bill

A tip is a payment for service. In many countries 15-20% is standard; in Thailand 10% is common when service is good.

Tip Formulas

Tip = bill × tip percentage

Total to pay = bill + tip

Example

A bill of 850 THB with a 10% tip:

• Tip = 850 × 0.10 = 85 THB
• Total = 850 + 85 = 935 THB

Splitting the Bill

(bill + tip) ÷ number of people

Example: 4 people, bill 1,200 THB, 10% tip (120) → (1,200 + 120) ÷ 4 = 330 THB per person

Mental Math Tips

• 10% = move the decimal point one place (850 → 85)
• 15% = 10% + half of 10% (85 + 42.5 = 127.5)
• 20% = double the 10% amount
