How to Make an Invoice Correctly: Required Elements

An invoice is a document the seller sends to the buyer to request payment for goods or services.

Required Elements

  • Invoice number — sequential and unique
  • Issue date
  • Seller details — company name, address, phone, tax ID (if any)
  • Buyer details — name, address
  • Line items table — product/service, quantity, unit price, line total
  • VAT (7% in Thailand) — if VAT-registered
  • Discounts (if any)
  • Total amount due
  • Payment terms — e.g., due within 30 days / bank transfer

VAT Example

Goods total 10,000 THB + 7% VAT:

  • VAT = 10,000 × 0.07 = 700 THB
  • Total = 10,000 + 700 = 10,700 THB

Tips

  • Keep invoice numbers sequential for easy bookkeeping
  • State payment terms clearly to avoid late payments
  • Keep copies for at least 5 years (tax statute of limitations)
  • VAT-registered businesses must issue full tax invoices per law
